Promoting and Protecting the Natural Health and Wellness Industry in SA

The HPA is a non-profit organization founded in 1976 to represent the interests of the South African Natural Health Products, Nutritional Dietary Supplements and Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMs) industry.

Members include industry-related manufacturers, marketers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, importers, exporters, consultants and practitioners.

The HPA represents the majority of health product manufacturers and distributors in South Africa. It strives to maintain high visibility for the health products industry and aims to serve the interests of health for the whole population.

Vision

The HPA promotes and protects the Natural Health and Wellness industry.

The HPA is committed to developing and maintaining standards that support and foster natural health product quality, safety and efficacy. The Association strives to establish an ethical, credible, relevant, and vibrant health and wellness products industry in South Africa.

As the authoritative voice of the natural health and wellness products industry, the HPA supports the interests of its members in all legislative and regulatory issues; promotes Good Manufacturing Practice to ensure product quality, safety and efficacy; provides responsible information for consumers, and encourages industry to achieve its highest potential.

HPA CONSTITUTION

HPA Objectives

  • To protect the right of free sale and access to both Health Supplements and Discipline-Specific CMs to the South African public.
  • To ensure high-profile visibility of the health products industry as a dynamic, organized and responsible force.
  • To guide and protect the industry and ensure its long-term viability.
  • To create a unified industry voice to interact meaningfully with external entities such as government bodies and industry.
  • To maintain high ethical standards of production, quality control, marketing and advertising within the industry.
  • To act as a body that protects consumers against exploitation by unethical practices.
  • To act as a central information point to promote and cooperate with the media in representing industry interests.
  • To provide an educational forum for consumers and professionals via seminars, conventions and exhibitions.
  • To promote cooperation between various international and local associations, medical bodies and fraternities in order to encourage mutual understanding.
  • To promote and develop networking opportunities for members to export and import products.
