MEDICINAL CLASSIFICATION FOR MELATONIN?

 

Spanish health authorities have ruled that melatonin has pharmacological activity and that therefore products containing it should be considered as medicines. As a result, any product containing melatonin - regardless of its dosage - which is not authorised for sale as a medicine, is to be regarded as being illegally presented for sale, and must be withdrawn from the Spanish market. This ruling comes despite such products being registered in Spain under the Mutual Recognition Regulations.
