AAMPS INITIATIVE
The African Association for Medicinal Plants Standards (AAMPS) together with the International Foundation for Science (IFS) have launched a special joint initiative to develop the capacity of young scientists and encourage applied research in the field of quality control, quality assurance and the preparation of standards/monographs for African medicinal plants and related natural products. Applicants should apply using the normal IFS application forms. Screening and evaluation of proposals will be done using the same procedures as those used for other Foundation research grant schemes. (see IFS web site for details) Preference will be given to proposals that help fill gaps in knowledge about the 52 plants selected for the AAMPS pharmacopoeia in terms of their botany, phytochemistry, traditional and modern use as well as their safety and efficacy.(see AAMPS web site for details). AAMPS is committed to continuously upgrading and improving this specialised field by sharing ideas, sharing information and sharing benefits. This association has built a platform for people to launch projects of mutual interest. For example, AAMPS Publishing currently has a pipeline of books that some members are preparing under the AAMPS umbrella.
